 Study: Military service makes men grumpier・・・
 Still, there is an upside, Jackson added. “People with lower levels of agreeableness are often more likely to fight their way up the corporate ladder and make the sometimes unpopular decisions that can be necessary for business success,” he said.

 ・・・the “submerged” aspect of the Israeli-Azerbaijani alliance — the security cooperation between the two countries — is heightening the risks of an Israeli strike on Iran.
 Israel has recently been granted access to airbases on Iran’s northern border.<i.e. t>he Israelis have bought an airfield・・・
 The Azeri military has four abandoned, Soviet-era airfields that would potentially be available to the Israelis, as well as four airbases for their own aircraft・・・
 Using airbases in Azerbaijan would ensure that Israel would not have to rely on its modest fleet of air refuelers or on its refueling expertise, which <is> pretty minimal.・・・They’re just not very good at it.
 ・・・the more distance a fighter-bomber is required to travel, the more fuel it will need and the fewer weapons it can carry. Shortening the distance adds firepower, and enhances the chances for a successful strike.
 Azerbaijan clearly profits from its deepening relationship with Israel. The Jewish state is the second largest customer for Azeri oil -shipped through the Baku-Tibilisi-Ceyhan pipeline — and its military trade allows Azerbaijan to upgrade its military after the Organization for Cooperation and Security in Europe (OSCE) slapped it with an arms embargo after its six-year undeclared war with Armenia over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. Finally, modernizing the Azeri military sends a clear signal to Iran that interference in Azerbaijan could be costly.

 Sanford police marched a handcuffed George Zimmerman into police headquarters the night he shot and killed Trayvon Martin, and a video shot by a security camera picked up no obvious sign of injury to the Neighborhood Watch volunteer.

Friends and family have said that Zimmerman, who is half-Peruvian, has black friends and even family members, and was not motivated by prejudice.
 A portrait is emerging of a man whose life, though pocked with allegations of aggressive behavior, was also marked by the kind of neighborhood-level engagement — he helped plan block parties — that social scientists have argued are key to combating the atomization and alienation of suburban life.・・・

 ・・・Fla., police department・・・<’s> explanation bears an eerie resemblance to cases brought under the Fugitive Slave Law・・・of 1793・・・during the Antebellum period. ・・・
 That law authorized slave owners residing in one state to enter another state to recapture their property.

Chris Kyle is a former United States Navy SEAL・・・ He made 160 confirmed kills (out of 255 claimed) while serving in Iraq.・・・

 <I> must take into account the Earth’s curvature・・・sniper uses a hand-held ballistic computer to calculate all that.
 ・・・<my> first sniper kill・・・was in 2003 in front of a marine base in the race to Baghdad. She wanted to attack us and came at us with a grenade and her young son in front of her. I shot her to stop her. I hated her for endangering all our lives. I hated her for making me kill a woman. She showed no respect for human life. I did not shoot the kid. She dropped the grenade when hit and it blew him up.
 We often found syringes and could tell they were using meth and heroin. When I shot several people, they did not feel the first bullets.
 ・・・journalists embedded・・・was a big mistake. The journalists usually just reported the bad news like accidental killings but never any good news stories like how we saved the lives of kids, built schools, protected election officials and things that won us much goodwill. Good news does not sell. Plus, I had to protect the journalists focusing on the negatives because they had no tactical training.
 My longest shot was 2,100 yards [1.92 kilometers]. I measured it with a laser range finder. I hit a terrorist holding a rocket propelled grenade who was targeting a US convoy from a roof in a village. It was in 2008 outside Sadr City [in Baghdad]. It is the US record for the longest sniper shot in Iraq. But a sniper in the British army has a shot of 2,500 yards [2.28 kilometers] and another sniper scored one of 2,700 yards [2.46 kilometers].
 There was a judicial inspector for every single shot – death or not. I would have to write up an extremely detailed form explaining and justifying my shot by reviewing who my target was, what he was doing, wearing, even the grain of the bullet.・・・
